Enlit Africa-2025: Eco-Friendly Uranium Extraction and Energy Solutions for Africa

From May 20 to 22, 2025, the international exhibition and conference Enlit Africa-2025, dedicated to discussing innovations, sustainable development, and the transformation of energy systems across the continent, took place in Cape Town, South Africa. Representatives of Headspring Investments, as part of the delegation from the Rosatom State Corporation, participated in the event, presenting an innovative regional solution: In-Situ Recovery (ISR) technology for uranium extraction.

Enlit Africa-2025 brought together over 7,000 participants, including government officials from South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya, energy company executives, investors, and industry experts. At the Rosatom exhibition space, a multimedia presentation of the ISR method — a uranium extraction technology that minimizes environmental impact — emerged as one of the central highlights. Attendees explored the ISR process in detail through an interactive 3D model, offering step-by-step immersion into each phase, and even tested their skills as operators via a virtual simulator.

The Rosatom display area also showcased models of Floating Power Units and the RITM-200 reactor. These solutions were highlighted during the panel discussion, “80 Years of Russian Nuclear Legacy: Powering Africa’s Sustainable Future with Floating Power Units”, held on May 21.

Session participants discussed how Floating Power Units technologies could address energy shortages in regions with limited infrastructure and strengthen energy resilience in African nations.
