Myths

Toxicity

The leaching solution used for ISR uranium mining is a highly toxic, dangerous chemical.

Pollution

The re-injection of solutions is a form of continual pollution, adding new chemicals to the aquifer each time.

Barren Land

ISR causes infertility and makes it impossible for agriculture to coexist with mining operations.

Widespread Contamination

ISR mining causes uncontrollable widespread underground drinking water contamination that is why ISR is only used in low quality water aquifers.

Facts

Safety

The leaching solution used is very weak, with an acidity (pH) similar to red wine or lemon juice.

Recycling

The mining solution is continuously recycled in a closed loop to minimize water use, waste, and environmental impact. Its chemical composition is constant.

Fertile Ground

ISR and agriculture can and do coexist successfully. Land can be returned to agricultural use after mining. Agricultural fields are located close to ISR operating mines in Dalur (Russia).

Protected Drinking Water

Drinking water aquifers are safe. Mining occurs in separate, deep layers, within targeted area of the ore body with 24hour monitoring. A potable water well located just 2 km from the active ISR mine at Zarechnoye (Kazakhstan) has been operating safely for over 10 years.
