Headspring Investments Inaugurates Modern Library and Computer Laboratory at //Naosanabis Primary School in Leonardville

Headspring Investments (Pty) Ltd, in partnership with //Naosanabis Primary School, has officially inaugurated a renovated library and a state-of-the-art computer laboratory in Leonardville, Omaheke Region, as a significant investment in education, digital literacy and community development.

The ceremony was attended by Hon. Dr. Emma Kantema, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, who officially inaugurated the library, and Hon. Wenzel Kavaka, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, who officially inaugurated the computer laboratory. Other invited guests included Hon. Isandro Kavari, Regional Councillor for Aminius Constituency; the Chief Regional Officer of the Omaheke Regional Council, Mr. Pecka Semba; Omaheke Education Regional Director, Mrs. Constance Wantenaar; diplomatic representatives from the Embassy of the Russian Federation, media, educators and learners. The event celebrated a partnership aimed at expanding access to knowledge and technology for more than 720 learners.

The inauguration underscores the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector and local communities in addressing educational needs and expanding opportunities for children in rural areas. It also reflects Headspring Investments’ commitment to contributing to sustainable community development in the regions where it operates.

Mr. Terry Ndana, the teacher responsible for ICT at //Naosanabis Primary School, reflected on the history of the building and its transformation. The building was originally an old toilet block. After a new toilet block was constructed, the old building was repurposed and used as a computer laboratory. It was subsequently struck by lightning, which damaged and rendered all the computers unusable. Following the lightning strike, the school wrote a letter to Headspring Investments requesting assistance to replace the damaged computers. After reviewing the request, Headspring Investments decided to visit the school. Upon inspection, the company determined that the building required full renovation.

“When we heard the school’s call for assistance, we knew we had an opportunity to do more than simply donate computers,” said the Deputy Director of Headspring Investments, Ms. Vanessa Bohitile. She said the company wanted to create two fully equipped, functional facilities that would give learners spaces and places to learn, dream and explore. “A library and a computer laboratory should be more than rooms filled with books and machines; they should be places where children discover their potential, broaden their horizons and begin to imagine possibilities beyond what they know today,” said Ms. Bohitile.

She further emphasized that education begins with a strong foundation, and the primary school years are among the most important stages in a child’s development. “We must therefore invest in environments that nurture curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and a genuine love for learning. As technology continues to evolve, we must also remember that mobile phones and artificial intelligence cannot replace the value of reading, physical books and the foundational skills children develop through engaging directly with what they read,” highlighted the company’s deputy director.

Hon. Wenzel Kavaka, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, highlighted the importance of expanding access to digital resources while promoting responsible and ethical technology use. The MICT Deputy Minister said, “The computer laboratory will strengthen learners’ research capabilities, provide access to information in real time and equip them with essential digital skills.” Hon. Kavaka further noted that access to technology must be accompanied by guidance and responsibility. He urged teachers to ensure that these facilities are used ethically, safely and purposefully, safeguarding learners while enabling them to benefit fully from the opportunities that digital technology provides.

The computer laboratory is expected to support technology-assisted teaching, independent research and access to digital learning resources, while the library will provide an environment conducive to reading, discovery and academic development

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Dr. Emma Kantema, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, commended Headspring Investments for its contribution to improving educational opportunities and supporting the development of Namibian children.

“Access to reading resources and digital technology is no longer a luxury. It is essential to preparing our children for the demands and opportunities of an evolving world,” said the Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare. Hon. Dr. Kantema further encouraged the  learners to make full use of these facilities by reading widely, exploring new ideas and developing the knowledge and skills they need to shape their futures. The Minister extended  appreciation to Headspring Investments and the school community for helping create an environment in which our children can learn, discover and thrive.

The inauguration builds on Headspring Investments’ broader engagement with //Naosanabis Primary School. In addition to its support for the library and computer laboratory, the company has contributed to facilities and initiatives intended to improve learners’ well-being, strengthen school resources and promote sustainable development.

Mr. Ashipala, principal of //Naosanabis Primary School, expressed his appreciation for the company’s continued support, highlighting its contribution to the school’s kitchen, food garden and reading initiatives. “It is difficult to fully express our gratitude to Headspring Investments for the exceptional support it has extended to our school. The company has gone above and beyond, demonstrating the meaningful impact that a committed private-sector partner can make in the lives of learners and the wider school community. Headspring Investments has constructed and fully equipped a modern kitchen to support the provision of balanced, nutritious meals for our learners. It has also established a well-stocked school garden, where produce is harvested and sold to generate benefits for the school. In addition, the company has supported our reading culture through the Reading Tree initiative and its contribution to the school library. These interventions go beyond infrastructure. They represent an investment in our learners’ well-being, knowledge and future. We are deeply grateful for a partnership that responds to our needs and creates tangible opportunities for our children,” said Mr. Ashipala.

For //Naosanabis Primary School, the new facilities represent an important step towards strengthening its learning environment and broadening learners’ access to educational resources. For the wider Leonardville community, the initiative demonstrates how cooperation between the public and private sectors can help translate shared development priorities into tangible outcomes.

Additionally, by supporting literacy, digital learning and learners’ well-being, Headspring Investments and its partners are contributing to an educational environment in which children can develop their abilities, broaden their horizons and prepare for future opportunities. The inauguration reinforces a shared commitment to education as a foundation for individual empowerment, community advancement and Namibia’s long-term development.
