Headspring Investments is die Namibiese bedryfsmaatskappy van Uranium One. Uranium One is ‘n internasionale groep maatskappye, in besit van ROSATOM.

HEADSPRING INVESTMENTS IS EAGER TO BECOME A FULLY-FLEDGED MEMBER OF NAMIBIAN SOCIETY AND TO BE A ROLE PLAYER OF NOTE IN THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY

Uranium One, through its Namibian affiliate company Headspring Investments, has been exploring for uranium in the Omaheke Region. The exploration started in 2011 by doing desk research and ground and water sampling but in 2013 operations were suspended due to a moratorium on uranium exploration. During the exploration drilling phase, about 150 Namibians were provided with jobs. The exploration drilling was all done by contracted Namibian drilling companies.

When the moratorium was lifted, exploration was resumed in 2018 and in 2019 a rich uranium ore body has been found in the Omaheke Region after only 60% of the exploration drilling has been completed. It is estimated that the discovered sandstone-type uranium deposit, which is considered suitable for in-situ recovery (ISR), could deliver 3 000 tons of uranium per year with a Life of Mine of at least 25 years.

Oor die isr-metode

Uraan word deur twee primêre tegnieke onttrek: oppervlak- of ondergrondse mynbou. In Situ Recovery (ISR) Mynbou is ‘n hoogs ontwikkelde myntegniek waar uraan uit die ertsdraende akwifersandsteen opgelos/gemobiliseer word deur óf industriële suurstof óf ‘n baie lae konsentrasie suur/alkaliese oplossing te gebruik en dit as ‘n swanger oplossing uit die akwifer te onttrek.

Die uraan word in die verwerkingsaanleg se ioonuitruilkolomme onttrek en die onvrugbare oplossing word terug in die akwifer gepomp om meer uraan op te los. Sodra die uraan volledig herwin is, word die grondwater teruggebring na die aanvanklike gekenmerkte grondwaterchemie voordat uraanherwinningsbedrywighede begin.

Omgewingssveiligheid van die isr-metode

Nadat ISR-mynboubedrywighede voltooi is, word die kwaliteit van die oorblywende grondwater teruggebring na ‘n basislynstandaard wat as deel van ‘n omgewingsinvloedbeoordeling en goedkeuring bepaal is voordat die operasie begin. By ontmanteling word putte verseël of bedek, verwerkingsfasiliteite verwyder, enige verdampingsdam beplant, en die grond kan dan na sy vorige gebruike terugkeer.

Terwyl ons Projek in die voorbereidingsfase is, het Uranium One en Headspring Investments vanaf die vroegste stadiums van die Projek op MVO-aktiwiteite gefokus.

Vanaf 2023 het die Uranium One-groep ten volle betaalde beurse vir 8 studente beskikbaar gestel om in die veld van mynbou te studeer. Die studente sal aan die Russiese Vriendskapsuniversiteit studeer. Grade kan in Geologie, Geofisika, Hidrologie en Mynbou-ingenieurswese, ens., verkry word. Hierdie studente sal, na voltooiing van hul studies, by die voorgestelde myne werk. Studente uit die Omaheke-streek sal voorkeur geniet wanneer aansoekvorms vir die beurse gekies word.
